Southwest School hosted its annual STEM night this past Tuesday, February 5th. Families that attended the event were able to participate in a variety of engaging STEM activities. Participants were challenged with a variety of math activities and counting games. They were also able to try there hand at a computer programming “Breakout.” In the breakout, you had to solve a series of riddles to get the codes and open digital locks. Finally, in the gym attendees faced an engineering challenge. They needed to build an “air powered” vehicle using straw, water bottles, balloons tape, and small sticks. Many creative designs and prototypes were developed...some a little more successfully than others. Participants then tested their cars to see how far they would travel. Students were also able to enter into a raffle for some STEM-related prizes. Thank you to all of the students and families that attended. Special thanks to Mrs. Berry for organizing the event and to all the teachers who help make the night a great success. Check out some pictures of the night below.
