The ride to the top was anything but easy for Matt Wilhelm, but he overcame many obstacles, injuries, and disappointments to become one of the best Flatland BMX riders in the world. BMX Flatland is a style of bike riding where riders perform tricks without a ramp. His unique style of spinning has allowed him to separate himself from the field. Matt has competed in more than just bike riding competitions. You may have also seen him on America’s got talent where he was a semi-finalist, or on Fox’s 30 Seconds to fame where he crowned a champion and awarded a $25,000 prize. In addition to showcasing his skills on a bike, Matt used the platform to talk about the importance of being kind to one another and never giving up. He now travels to over 300 schools per year to talk about his life experiences and the lessons he has learned.
His school assembly program covers perseverance, bullying, kindness, and resilience...he also performed some of his signature tricks! Thank you to Matt for taking the time to visit Southwest and sharing his message. Additionally Southwest would like to thank the Boosters for sponsoring the assembly. Check out some pictures from the May 16th assembly! Also, visit his website for more information about Matt.
