The PBIS team at Southwest organized a surprise celebration for students last Wednesday. One component of PBIS is regular positive recognition for all the great things our students are doing. On Wednesday (Feb 7th), students that were infraction free for the week participated in a life-size game of “Hungry Hungry Hippos.” Students worked in teams to gather as much “food” as they could using scooters and laundry baskets. Check out some video and pictures of the action! See if you can spot Ivan, the star of our Evergreen Reads book, getting in on the fun!
As a district, we have a goal to have 80 percent of our students with 0-1 behavior referrals. The PBIS team keeps track of all referral data and analyzes it, looking for any patterns or trends that may need attention. They also plan celebrations to help acknowledge all of the fantastic things going on here at Southwest. Currently, Southwest has over 300 students, and 87 percent of those students have 0-1 referrals which means we are well on our way to hitting our goal. Way to go Team Southwest! For more information on PBIS, we’ll be featuring a series of posts giving an overview of the program and its different components. Stay Tuned!
