On November 15th, children’s Author Mr. Marty Kelley visited Southwest and met with all students. In series of small group presentations, Mr. Kelley tried to give students some insight on what it is really like to be an author and an illustrator. He showed the kids his processes for idea creation, story planning, writing and illustrating. Mr. Kelly talked about the role others play in his work such as his art directors, editors, and publishers. Students were also able to hear Mr. Kelley read some of his works such as The Cape. Southwest celebrated the visit and story by wearing capes of their own. His presentations were also interactive as he asked students to imagine themselves as a superhero and share their superpower. Southwest wishes to thank the D124 Foundation which funded the visit. Check out some pictures of the visit.
Attached below is an order form for books by Marty Kelley. Orders forms are due by Thursday, November 30th.
