4th-Grade Students Create "Wonder Portraits"

4th-Grade students at Southwest created personalized Wonder Portraits. Ms. Matheison's class, along with the rest of Southwest, is reading the book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, in preparation for the all-school field trip to see the movie adaptation on December 18th.

All the SW teachers are doing a read aloud with their class using the book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is a great story about differentiation and acceptance. A couple of years ago, many teachers read the book to their class, but it is worth a second read, and the students will get a different perspective now that they are a couple of years older. We have many fun activities planned over the next couple months that go along with the book, and our culminating activity will be an all-school field trip to attend the movie, Wonder. The movie will be released just before Thanksgiving; however, our field trip will be December 18th. I wanted to inform you of the movie date, hoping you would hold off seeing it with your child since all students will attend in Dec. More information will be sent home as we get closer to the date. Mrs. Gorman has several, special projects planned for the students as well. All the students will be creating Kindness Rocks to share with the community. Look for information to come home on November 10th about the rocks.  If you haven't had a chance to read the book, I strongly suggest you take some time to read it. It's a great story, and you will be able to have some meaningful conversations with your child about the topic.
