A familiar face has been selected as the next principal of Southwest School.

Scott Liska, who currently serves as an assistant principal at both Southwest and Southeast School, will replace retiring principal Patti Bogdan at the start of the 2020-2021 school year. The Evergreen Park School District 124 Board of Education made the hiring official at its Wednesday, Feb. 19, meeting.

D124 Superintendent Dr. Robert Machak originally hired Liska in 2017 and said has been extremely impressed with his growth as an administrator over the past three years.

“Scott's actions as an assistant principal speak louder than any words I can offer,” Machak said. “I can't think of a single time that a student, parent, or staff member at Southeast or Southwest needed something where Scott wasn't right there and ready to help. Scott understands both the building management and instructional leadership aspects of school administration really well, and with his being on board already he'll have ample opportunity to pick Ms. Bogdan's brain as we transition into this new and exciting chapter of the Southwest School story."

Liska has worked as an assistant principal in the district since the start of the 2017-18 school year. During his time in Evergreen Park, Liska has focused on using data both to analyze student growth, and to support teachers in discovering where students may need additional assistance.

He plans to do more of the same as principal and believes the outstanding students and teachers at Southwest will play a key role in a successful transition.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue working alongside such exceptional students and staff,” Liska said. “I am wholly committed to continuing the tradition of excellence present at Southwest and in District 124, and prepared to take on the challenge of helping the school flourish moving forward. After working at Southwest the last three years, I believe strongly in the quality of the staff and the work they are doing, and recognize that each member brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the position. As principal, I will leverage that experience in meaningful ways and look to empower our staff to continue to grow; because as each member of our staff grows, student learning continues to grow.”

Prior to arriving in D124, Liska worked as a teacher, case manager, and athletic director with Chicago Public Schools. He earned his educational administration Degree from Dominican University in 2017, and also holds a master’s in education from National Louis University and a bachelor's in history from Wabash College in Indiana.

Bogdan has confidence that Liska will continue the tradition of success at Southwest School.

“Scott has done an outstanding job of developing a quality learning environment for the students of our district," she said. "His building-level leadership has fostered a collaborative working environment with a focus on student achievement and doing what is best for kids.”

Un rostro familiar ha sido seleccionado como el próximo director de la Escuela Southwest.

Scott Liska, quien actualmente sirve como director adjunto en las escuelas Southwest y Southeast reemplazará a la directora próxima a jubilarse, Patti Bogdan al inicio del ciclo escolar 2020-2021.  El Consejo de Educación del Distrito Escolar de 124 de Evergreen Park hizo la contratación oficial en su junta del miércoles 19 de febrero.

El Superintendente del D124 Dr. Robert Machak originalmente contrató a Liska en 2017 y dijo que ha estado extremadamente asombrado con su crecimiento como administrador en los últimos tres años.

“Las acciones de Scott como director adjunto hablan más fuerte que cualquier palabra que yo pueda decir, “dijo Machak. “No puedo pensar ni una vez en la que algún alumno, padre de familia o un miembro del personal de Southeast o Southwest necesitara algo y en donde Scott no estuviera ahí mismo, listo para ayudar. Scott entiende la administración de la escuela y los aspectos del liderazgo de instrucción bastante bien, y con él ya estando a bordo, ha ampliado la oportunidad de conocer las ideas de Ms. Bogdan respecto a la transición en el nuevo y emocionante capítulo de la historia de la escuela Southwest.”

Liska ha trabajado como director adjunto en el distrito desde el inicio del ciclo escolar 2017-18. Durante este tiempo en Evergreen Park, Liska se ha enfocado en utilizar los datos, tanto para analizar el crecimiento del estudiante como para apoyar a los maestros a descubrir las áreas en las que los estudiantes puedan necesitar ayuda adicional. 

 Él planea continuar haciendo lo mismo como director, y cree que los extraordinarios alumnos y maestros de Southwest jugarán un papel importante en una transición exitosa.  

“Me da mucho gusto tener la oportunidad de continuar trabajando con estudiantes y personal tan excepcionales,” dijo Liska. “estoy totalmente comprometido a continuar la tradición de excelencia presente en Southwest y en el Distrito 124, y estoy preparado para el reto de ayudar a la escuela a florecer en el futuro.

Después de trabajar en Southwest los últimos tres años, creo firmemente en la calidad del personal y del trabajo que ellos están realizando, y reconozco que cada miembro brinda sus destrezas únicas y experiencias a sus puestos. Como director, yo aprovecharé esta experiencia de manera significativa y buscaré empoderar a nuestro personal para que continúe creciendo: porque cuando cada miembro de nuestro personal crece, el aprendizaje del estudiante continúa creciendo.”

Antes de llegar al D124, Liska trabajó como maestro, coordinador de servicios, y director atlético en las escuelas públicas de Chicago. Él obtuvo su título de Administración en la educación, en Dominican University en 2017, y también tiene una Maestría en Educación de Louis University y una Licenciatura en Historia de Wabash College en Indiana.

Bogdan confía en que Liska continuará la tradición del éxito en la Escuela Southwest.

“Scott ha realizado un trabajo sobresaliente desarrollando un ambiente de aprendizaje de calidad para los estudiantes de nuestro distrito,” ella dijo. “Su liderazgo en la escuela ha fomentado un ambiente de colaboración laboral, con un enfoque en los logros del estudiante y en hacer lo que es mejor para los niños”.
